The 2021 college football season has been off to a wild start. The usual top teams have looked shaky so far. The number 3 ranked has lost twice already this season, Oregon and Ohio State. Oregon was the team that beat Ohio State, which was number 3 at the time. The game was at Ohio State which is very rare for them to lose at home. Clemson, which has been dominant in the past 7-8 seasons, has already lost twice this season to Georgia and NC State and squeaked by Georgia Tech, stopping them on a 4th and goal with time expiring, and Boston College, who fumbled on Clemson’s 15 yard line.

In these first 6 weeks, 34 ranked teams have lost, which is an unusually high number this early on. The only consistency from the previous season to this one was Alabama’s dominance, until they lost to Texas A&M while ranked at  #1. Georgia is now the clear top team team in college football by a long shot. It is very hard to predict who the other playoff teams will be, but Cincinnati, a Group of Five team, has a very good chance to make it, which would make them the first Group of Five team to accomplish that feat. Hopefully this season will stay as crazy as it has been, and the usual suspects are not the ones contending for the National Championship.
