Happy Birthday Mickey Mouse!

Laney, Reporter

November 18th, 1928, was the first time Mickey Mouse, who at the time was called Steamboat Willie, ever appeared to the public. This was the official birthday of Mickey Mouse. This year will be his 93rd birthday, and Disney World will continue their annual birthday traditions by selling special merchandise, foods, and beverages. The “Move It” dance party will also be held on the streets in Mickey’s honor. This exciting event consists of colorful floats parading through the streets, along with many Disney characters singing, dancing, and celebrating. To honor our beloved Mickey, let’s take a look at all the things that would not exist without him!

First and foremost, the popular children’s show, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse along with its cherished characters, Daisy, Donald, Pluto, Goofy, and Minnie would not exist. Not only would the show have never come to be, but many of our favorite movies wouldn’t have either! Just a few of the beloved movies that wouldn’t be here without Mickey are, Mickey’s Magical Christmas, Mickey’s Great Outdoors, and Mickey’s Christmas Carol. There are also tons of delicious foods that just wouldn’t be the same without him. For example, Mickey Waffles, Mickey Ice Cream Bars, and Mickey Rice Krispy Treats. The list of Mickey-themed treats is endless.  I don’t know about you, but I can’t imagine a life where Mickey Bars don’t exist!

In honor of Mickey Mouse’s birthday, I also decided to ask a few SHS students their favorite Mickey product. Kaylie McMahan, a sophomore at SHS, says her favorite Mickey products are the various comfortable blankets and pajama pants. Sara Byrd, a junior at SHS, says her favorite Mickey-themed products are the stuffed animals. I also asked Mrs. Wesley’s class their preference of Mickey products. They chose the Mickey decorated toaster. As you can see, there are so many different things to celebrate when it comes to Mickey Mouse. Take some time today to enjoy your favorite Mickey shows, movies, snacks, and products!
